Eurobike Award 2020 deploys mix of analogue and digital tools
Closing date for Eurobike Award 2020 registration is 9 July – Due to Corona: early registration discount extended to 23 June – Digital award ceremony and start-up pitch on 2 September 2020
Friedrichshafen – There are many design awards. However, few of them assess bike innovations with an independent panel of expert judges. There is only one design award presented on behalf of the leading, international bicycle industry trade show. In 2020, the Eurobike Award continues to be one of the most important prizes for design and innovation in the world of bikes. This year, the organisers have adapted the award process in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, without making any sacrifices on quality and impartiality.
Bicycle and mobility companies, designers and developers have been busy entering product innovations for the Eurobike Award 2020 since April. For the award process, the organisers are relying on tried and tested mechanisms, however they have been adapted in response to the Corona virus. Eurobike project manager Dirk Heidrich explains: “This year, we have moved the award procedure back somewhat, adjusted it and introduced more digital features. Nevertheless, the two-day decision-making panel where the judges meet to assess the products remains in place. We are convinced that this is the only way to ensure that all the new bike innovations are extensively tested, properly discussed and fully evaluated right down to the smallest detail.”
This year, the timing of the award process has been adapted to take account of the later start to the season and the postponing of the special-edition Eurobike to November 2020. As such, the early registration discount has been extended to 23 June, while the closing date for registration remains at 9 July. Following the digital pre-selection round with twelve judges, the final judges panel with six industry experts will be held on 5 and 6 August. Selection for the 2020 judges panel has had to consider the respective international travel restrictions. The panel members will be announced shortly.
The Eurobike Award 2020 winners will be announced on the original trade show date – 2 September 2020 – during a digital award ceremony. In addition, the new digital Start-Up Pitch event for young entrepreneurs and new businesses will be held on the same day. However, the industry will still get the opportunity to see the award-winning products live as the Eurobike Award Display remains a permanent feature of the trade fair that will take place from 24 - 26 November 2020 in Friedrichshafen.
