The Osthafen is located in the immediate vicinity of the ECB on the banks of the Main and invites you to relax with its lawns. In the German BMX scene, the park is also known for its expansive bowl landscape, which with its countless concrete curves is the perfect stage for spectacular tricks such as flairs (half-twist somersault), 720s (double twist in the air) and tailwhips (the wheel revolves around the stem) provides. Add to that a DJ in a good mood and food trucks with delicious food and cold drinks and the end of the day can come!
As a special highlight of the show, a so-called airbag will be set up next to the skate park. This is a jump with an oversized air cushion as a landing, on which particularly breathtaking tricks are possible. Lots of action is pre-programmed!
Much closer to the ground, but no less spectacular, is the adjacent basketball court, which is reserved for what is probably the most difficult and at the same time most aesthetic BMX discipline: Flatland. Flatland is about performing tricks without obstacles on flat ground. This is not dissimilar to breakdancing and is an extremely demanding undertaking that demands an extra portion of wheel control from the riders.
But it all starts on Friday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. with half-hour BMX workshops on the Osthafen street area. At these, experienced trainers teach interested newcomers the most important basics of BMX riding. BMX bikes for all ages from well-known manufacturers such as Sunday Bikes and Wethepeople as well as the appropriate protective equipment can be borrowed on site free of charge. Thanks to SIBMX for the friendly support!
From 6:00 p.m. the pros get going, so hurry over to the bowl, where Paul Thölen and his teammate Timo Schulze will most likely be flying meters high by this point. The two belong to the federal squad, so to speak the German BMX freestyle national team, and are therefore among the best ramp riders in Europe. Paul was also voted Park Driver of the Year 2021 by the readers of freedombmx magazine last year.
Also taking part are Evan Brandes, who won gold at the youth games in Buenes Aires in 2018, trick machine Dean Florian, local hero Jan Mihaly, the Highest Air King Sikharin Supanmart, Mr. Flairtransfer aka Tobias Freigang, and the flying Dutchman Tom van den Bogaard.
In short: the Friday and Saturday evenings at EUROBIKE 2022 are definitely saved, especially since entry to the BMX events is free. So, we'll see in the Osthafen!
