Ah, Tuscany by the sea. Beautiful in every way, it wraps its warmth and charm around all that come here. The magnificent coast, the rugged yet welcoming Elba Island, and always inspiring natural beauty and fortified towns all weave a spell of enchantment. Step back in time as we visit ancient Etruscan sites and medieval towns. All the while, surrounded by unrivalled vistas and lovely scenery.

Day 1 Lucca
Meet in Lucca for the first bike ride atop the Renaissance town wall or a day exploring this well-preserved Tuscan town. Tonight we gather for a wonderful welcome dinner.     Climate Tuscany     

Day 3 Castagneto
Bike along the Etruscan Riviera, rich in natural beauty and archaeological remains. Ride along the famous Wine Road, through serene vineyards, olive groves, charming villages and seaside resorts. Breeze along the cypress-lined avenue that inspired the Italian poet Giosuè Carducci.

Day 3 Castagneto
Enjoy a ferry ride to the island of Elba. Take in the palm trees, bamboos, eucalyptus and other Mediterranean vegetation on this island with a stunning jagged coastline. Bike from Rio Marina to delightful harbor towns with brilliant coastal views. Or, begin your day on the mainland at the necropolis of the Etruscan town Pupluna. Continue on to the walled village of Campiglia Marittima.

Day 4 Sovana
We wind our way through lovely historic villages to Suvereto, with its splendid town center. Visit an olive farm for a tasting and a look at how the nectar is created. Once in Sovana, explore the ruins of a feudal fortress or visit the remnants left by the Etruscans from as early as 700 BC.

Days 5 Sovana
A short hilly ride carries us to Pitigliano, where we enjoy a tour of the town led by a local guide. Then onto medieval Sorano, dotted with multiple caves, some made by the Etruscans.

Day 6 Scansano
Bike to Saturnia, one of the oldest towns in Italy where the natural thermal waters beacon us. After a relaxing visit to the spa, continue on to Scansano, in the center of the famous wine growing area.

Day 7 Fonteblanda/Orbetello
Enjoy an easy day of cycling as we ride to the coast. Along the way historic Pereta, with its monumental gate granting entrance into this double-walled town. Take in the vista of Magliano in Toscana on top of a lovely olive tree covered hill. Tonight we dine on wonderful Tuscan specialties. (Mileage options: 25 / 31)

Day 8 Departure
Transfer to Orbetello train station for departure to Rome or Pisa.
