French country cuisine, fine hotels, charming market towns, and prehistoric cave paintings highlight this tour, accompanied by spectacular landscapes and friendly locals. Enjoy tasty truffles and goose liver foie gras, linger at the bicycle museum in Cadouin, or walk the pilgrims' way to Rocamadour. Day 1 Bordeaux
Meet in the historic wine-trading town of Bordeaux. A major port since pre-Roman times, Bordeaux is ideal for exploring before our welcome dinner.

Day 2 Argentat
Transfer by private coach to Argentat, a charming riverside town with medieval turrets and pepper-pot towers. Today's warm-up ride leads to the tiny hill town of St-Martin-la-Méanne. (bicyle tour mileage options: 14 / 19 / 26)

Day 3 Saint-Céré
Our gentle route takes us past walnut groves and farms en route to Saint-Céré. Along the way, we'll visit the lovely 11thC castle-fort Castelnau, and picnic beside the river. Tonight enjoy a wonderful dinner of local specialties.

Day 4 Rocamadour
Drink in the pastoral beauty of the Dordogne valley, with stunning views of the river and the dramatic gorge that surrounds it. Evening will find us in Rocamadour, a pilgrimage town miraculously built on a rocky peak above the Alzou Valley.

Day 5 Rocamadour
Take all day to explore the sights in this ecclesiastical town, or opt for a bike ride to the magnificent caverns and caves of Padirac.

Days 6-7 Sarlat
Follow the river to Souillac, with its 12th C Benedictine abbey, then continue on to gas-lit Sarlat, a perfectly preserved, honey-hued medieval market town. With so many interesting sights and shops, you'll want to explore every inch. Tomorrow, we'll loop along the river, passing comely villages and castles, with an option to canoe or kayak.

Day 8 Trémolat
Cycle the poplar-lined Vézère River to Les Eyzies, where we'll tour the region's most famous prehistoric cave paintings. Tonight we'll stay in the garden village Trémolat. (bicycle tour mileage options: 28 / 37)

Day 9 Trémolat
Today's ride ventures into the surrounding countryside. Take time in Cadouin to visit the bicycle museum. Then return to Trémolat for an evening of elegant indulgence with a sumptuous farewell feast.

Day 10
Transfer to Bordeaux for departure.
