The South Island's best alpine lakes and high country combine to create a diverse and glorious cycling experience. Discover the vast MacKenzie Basin by bike. Walk beneath Mt. Cook, New Zealand's highest peak, and explore the picture-perfect Arrowtown. Choose from a bounty of activities along the way, including kayaking, boating and walking on the Routeburn track.

Day 1 Christchurch
Arrive in Christchurch, the most English City outside of England. Spend the day strolling the quaint streets or enjoy a boat ride on the Avon River..

Day 2 Fairlie
The Port Hills' amazing vistas overlooking Christchurch get us off to a picture perfect start. Cycle the volcanic rim before our lunch at a small winery. Then, onto the vast Canterbury plains and bike into the foothills before meeting with our farmhouse hosts for the night.

Day 3 Tekapo
Ride along the remarkable blue Lake Tekapo via the Burkes Pass. Enjoy the flower-fringed path with majestic views of Mount Cook and the Southern Alps.

Day 4 Lake Ohau
Explore huge glacial lakes as we cycle and walk beneath Mount Cook and the alpine village. Hooker Valley is dominated by New Zealand's highest mountain with its steep glacier sides.

Day 5 Wanaka
Morning lakeside biking carries us to Lindis Pass, crossing onto the Otago Watershed. See New Zealand's historic gold mining areas.

Days 6-7 Queenstown
Via the scenic trails we cycle and explore Arrowtown, a gold-mining center from a by-gone era. By coach and bike we travel to Queenstown, our home for two nights. Next day explore the Rees and Dart valleys or try some jet boating or kayaking.

Day 8 Te Anau
A leisurely bike and coach ride takes us to Lake Te Anau. We walk the lakeside sections of the Kepler Trach through beech tree forests. Take time to recharge or enjoy cycling along the spectacular forest.

Day 9 Milford Sound
We transfer to Fiordland National Park and become one with the wilderness as we cycle, coach, then stroll onto the Routeburn Walk. Enjoy a delightful descent by bike into Milford Sound and our home for the night on the SS Milford Mariner. Voyage out of the Sound and into open sea before returning to our overnight port.

Day 10 Te Anau
Shuttle to the top of Homer Tunnel and enjoy a spectacular walk into the Gertrude Valley or a bike ride down the Hollyford Valley. By foot or bike, we make our way down the majestic Eglington Valley.

Day 11 Queenstown
Start the day with a bike and coach journey to the hidden Mavora Lakes, site of the closing scenes of "The Lord of the Rings." Serene views inspire us as we cycle through the lakeside and forests. Then onward by bus to the Von Valley. Cycle the shores of Lake Wakatipu and down to Walter Peak station. Next, we're off to the steam ship SS Earnslaw to enjoy a sing-along as we cross to Queenstown.

Days 12-13 Queenstown
Enjoy one of the most scenic settings in the world. Stroll to the town center mall and onto the Maintown Pier. There are numerous natural areas to explore in this town established during the 1860s gold rush.

Day 14 Wanaka
Bike from the Coronet peak ski base to the picturesque gold-mining settlement of Arrowtown. Then on to Kawarau Gorge, taking time to view bungy jumpers on the historic bridge. Roll downhill via Crown Ridge in the scenic Cardrona Valley into Wanaka and break for afternoon tea. Next we cycle along the lakeside or the Clutha river edge.

Day 15 Haast
Bike along the brilliant blue Lake Hawea. We drive to the top of the Haast Pass and enter the famous West Coast forests. Bike down through the "Gates of Haast" to the flats of the Landsborough River for lunch.

Day 16 Fox Glacier
Start off with a spin on the peaceful forest roads to Bruce Bay and then bus to the mighty Fox Glacier for a guided walk through the rainforest. Opt for a whirl in a helicopter for a spectacular bird's eye view. Or, go to nearby Lake Matheson famous for its reflective views of the Southern Alps.

Day 17 Franz Josef
Enjoy biking between Fox and Franz Josef Glacier and walk to a majestic view of the advancing terminal face. The rest of the day is for sightseeing, a second chance at a helicopter ride or any of the local walks.

Day 18 Hokitika
Meander by bike through the Podacarp forests to hidden Lake Ianthe. We spend the day cycling and exploring the plentiful lakes, valleys and gold mines as we continue up the coast to the rainforests of Lakes Kaniere and Mahinapua.

Day 19 Christchurch
By bus and bike we wind inland through the forests to Lake Brunner. Ride through sweeping rural landscapes with a gentle climb into the Alps and the rugged mountain peaks. By coach we travel over Arthur's Pass and then bike amongst the alpine pastures. Relax with an end-of-day ride on Tranz Alpine Express, one of the world's greatest scenic train rides.

Day 20 Christchurch
After breakfast we transfer to the airport or train station.
